Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice
The British driver has outperformed his teammate at all of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver edged out team-mate and championship contender Oscar Piastri for the top spot in the final moments of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix.
Norris, who seized the championship lead from his teammate by a single point after taking the win in Mexico City two weeks ago, beat the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair for most of the session before sprint qualifying set to begin at 6:30 PM GMT.
The Red Bull star, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, finished in 17th position as his team followed a unique setup.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to crash, if briefly, when he spun at Turn Four early in the session.
Tsunoda lost control over the exit kerbs before spinning across the run-off area, and was blessed to escape with just a minor contact of the fence.
The Ferrari of Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending Mergulho corner leading to the final bend on to the main straight.
The veteran wrapped up in P19, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
The McLaren drivers were far ahead of the other competitors, with the German's car P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto ahead of the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
